8 - Abbi Pazienza street

Il nome di questa strada ha una storia particolare che descrive una Pistoia fiera e feroce nel periodo medioevale. Si racconta che, all'epoca delle grandi lotte fra famiglie rivali, una notte molto buia, un membro della famiglia dei Rossi, tutto ben coperto ed intabarrato, aspettasse un nemico per pugnalarlo. Ad un tratto qualcuno arrivò, il colpo fu sferrato ed il colpito si volse: era un amico, un parente: “Abbi pazienza”, fu tutto quello che il feritore seppe dire . La storia non dice cosa rispose il colpito.

The history of the unusual name of “Via Abbi Pazienza”is symbolic of the proud and violent Pistoia in the Middle Ages.

During the period of the great strife between the rival families, one very dark night a member of the Rossi family was waiting on the corner of the street for an enemy in order to stab him. He was well wrapped up in his cloack and, when a figure appeared, he stubbed him. The poor man turned and his adversary saw that he was a friend, a relative: “Abbi pazienza” (Sorry about that) was all that the aggressor could say. The story doesn't tell the reply of the wounded party.
